77,216 children to be immunised against polio in SWA

As many as 77,216 children aged up to five years would be vaccinated against polio in South Waziristan Agency (SWA) under three-day campaign that is starting from March 12. An awareness-raising workshop presided over by Political Agent, South Waziristan, and Muhammad Javed Khan Marwat and attended by Assistant Political Officer Hameedullah Khan and Additional Agency Surgeon Dr Abdullah Khan besides elders of different tribes of the South Waziristan was held here to finalise preparations for the campaign.
Political Agent said solid steps are being taken to eradicate the deadly virus from the Agency and he added that the co-operation of the local community is necessary in this regard. He further said all out efforts would be made to make the campaign successful as the polio virus inflicts lasting harm on the young lot, who is regarded as builder of the nation. Speaking on the occasion the APO Hameedullah Khan said elaborate arrangements have been made to make the polio drive more effective, reaching out to maximum number of children within the stipulated period of three days.
