Controlling extortion, street crimes: 800 cops to be deployed in affected areas: IGP Sindh

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh Mushtaq Shah on Thursday announced to deploy 800 cops in the affected areas of Karachi to check extortion mafia and street criminals. Reviewing the performance of the newly established Anti Extortion Cell (AEC) after meeting a delegation of traders at Central Police Office (CPO), the IGP ordered the AEC officials to take stern action against the extortionists.
He also directed to establish liaison between police and community by constituting committees at police station levels and asked the concerned officials to monitor the progress of these committees. Shah said that some 800 policemen would be deployed in the affected areas to root out extortion and street crimes. Additional IG Karachi Akhtar Hussain Gorchani, Additional IG CID Ghulam Shabbir Sheikh, AEC chief DSP Wasif Qureshi and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
