Embassy of Brazil arranged a photo exhibition with a theme "Life is short: let's go to the Carnival" here on Thursday. Ambassador of Brazil to Pakistan Alfredo Leoni received the distinguished guest, dignitaries and diplomats. The ambassador said every year, in February or March, Brazil stops for four days to celebrate Carnival.
From the smallest towns to the biggest cities, the sole objective for the young and old alike is the escape brought by relaxation, fun, song and dance, usually wearing extravagant and sometimes irreverent costumes and taking part in street parades. He states that among all Brazilian cities, Rio de Janeiro is famous for its carnival festivities. Gifted by a spectacular location, with extraordinary beaches and unforgettable natural landscapes, Rio has become rightly known as the 'Marvellous City'. Rio's Carnival, considered the world's largest, which brings to the streets more than two million people every day.
He further states that the samba parade is the climax of Rio's Carnival. It is impossible not to be mesmerised by the collective joy, elaborate costumes and contagious samba beat. All this was masterly captured by the keen eye of Pakistani photographer Zulfikar Ali. His magnificent photos show how lively, vivid and exhilarating Rio's Carnival is. The Embassy of Brazil could not be more privileged in exhibiting Zulfikar Ali's most recent essay, the result of a trip to Rio de Janeiro in February 2012, and in sharing with the Pakistani public this magic.
Zulfikar Ali said after spending just a week in Rio, experiencing the carnival, he felt he needed more time to get to know the city well-the setting is breathtaking-the granite peeks rise dramatically from the sea. After the exhibition, a very limited signed and numbered fine art prints were put on sale at Tanzara Gallery.
