Dignified status in comity of nations: Nawaz calls to ensure economic sovereignty

23 Mar, 2012

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has held former dictators responsible of present manifold challenges posed to the country. In his Pakistan Day message, Nawaz said that former dictators caused great harm to democracy in their lust for power.
He said, "The former dictators are responsible for today's challenges confronted to the country who prefer their personal interests over national interest in their lust for power." He said Pakistan had still not achieved the objectives of its creation. "Today the country was backward, its institutions were weak and despondency prevailed everywhere. The people are facing unrest, exploitation, poverty, ignorance, unemployment and the price hike."
He said "we have to fight the situation to change our fate and for this purpose, first of all, we have to identify the cause of our predicament and then frame a strategy to come out of it." He said the basic factor of our present shattered state was the repeated martial law in the country. The dictators not only subverted the Constitution but also destroyed the judiciary and fashioned oppression instead of justice in addition to promoting unscrupulousness, he added.
The PML-N President said "we would have to ensure economic sovereignty to get dignified status in comity of nations." In order to achieve the goal of economic sovereignty, all necessary steps would have to taken in right direction, he added.
Nawaz further said the present regime following the footsteps of dictatorial regimes was violating decisions of the courts but the PML-N would ensure supremacy of Constitution, rule of law and independence of judiciary. The present rulers would have to respect the decisions of courts by implementing them in letter and spirit, he added.
In order to make the dreams of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal true and to put the country on road to progress and prosperity, Nawaz invited countrymen to lend him helping hand and support his efforts. He pledged not to disappoint the people at any cost.
He said the people would have to utilise all their capabilities and energies to transform the country into an independent Islamic welfare state. "We would have to make a pledge on this day that all energies will be used for getting respectable status for the country through supremacy of Constitution, rule of law, independent judiciary and media and transparency."
