President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday approved appointment of two Federal Shariat Court judges and five judges of Lahore High Court. According to details, former Justice Shaikh Ahmad Farooq and former Justice Muhammad Jehangir Arshad have been nominated and confirmed by Judicial Commission and the Parliamentary Committee, respectively as Federal Shariat Court judges for a period of two years.
The summary received by the President form the Prime Minister said that after due consideration by the Judicial Commission and then by the Parliamentary Committee on the Appointment of Judges in the Superior Courts, the above nominations were forwarded to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister in turn advised the President to accord approval to these nominations. Accordingly, the President accorded the approval on Thursday.
The President also approved the appointment of five additional Judges in Lahore High Court. The newly appointed additional Judges are: Abul Sami Khan, Ibad-ur-Rehman Lodhi, Shujaat Ali Khan, Ayesha A. Malik and Shaikh Shahid Waheed. These nominations were also forwarded through the Prime Minister to the President by the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment in the Superior Courts after due consideration by the Judicial Commission, in accordance with the procedure lad down in the constitution.
