Used construction machinery import: FBR examines proposal to end age limit condition

The government is examining a proposal to end age limit on the import of used and second-hand construction machinery including dumpers. Sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday the Ministry of Commerce, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and other stakeholders are reviewing the proposal to take away condition of the age limit on the import and used and second hand construction machinery.
At present, import of old and used construction machinery with age limit of 10 years has been allowed under the Import Policy Order. A proposal is being examined to end age limit on the import and use of second hand construction machinery including dumpers. So far, the proposal has not been finalised, while the idea is under discussion among the concerned authorities.
Presently, 30 percent customs duty is applicable on the import of old dumpers or dump trucks and 5 percent customs duty is applicable on other types of construction machinery. Such kind of old construction machinery cannot be imported beyond the age limit of 10 years. In case the proposal is considered by the policy markers, the import of old construction machinery may be allowed without any age limit.
The government has allowed the import of the old and used water tankers. A proposal is being examined to disallow the import of the old water tankers. In case proposal is approved, imposition of ban on the import of water tankers may be notified, sources added.
