Amir Muqam, a leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) and one of close associates of former president Pervez Musharraf, called on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at latter's Raiwind residence on Wednesday and announced his willingness to join the PML-N, expressing full confidence in the policies pursued by N-League.
During the meeting, various matters including current political situation and situation arising out after dissolution of PML-Q's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wing by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussein. A statement issued by PML-N after the meeting says Amir Muqam expressed his confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. During the meeting, they discussed current political situation and others important matters and Amir Muqam appreciated political wisdom of Nawaz Sharif. Amir Muqam is going to announce his decision to formally join the PML-N during a press conference in Peshawar.
Punjab Chief Minster Shahbaz Sharif, PML-N Secretary General Zafar Iqbal Jhagra, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, Pir Sabir Shah, Farid Toufan and Captain Safdar (Retd) were also present during the meeting. It may be noted that differences emerged between Amir Muqam and Q-league leadership after the party joined the PPP-led coalition. Shujaat on Tuesday sacked Amir Muqam and also dissolved the PML-Q wing in KP.
Sources claimed that negotiations between Amir Muqam and PML-N were going on for the last few days as the party leadership wanted to strengthen its base in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Amir Muqam said that Chaudhry brothers surrendered to PPP only to save Moonis Elahi. Muqam termed the PML-Q chief's decision a violation of the party's constitution and said Shujaat had no such powers to abolish an elected body.
He said that he had summoned the party's emergent meeting of KP chapter to thrash out future plan of action. Sources claimed that Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had taken the decision after media reports suggesting Muqam was planning to join either PML-N or the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.
