A weeklong training workshop on Capacity Development was organised by Continuing Engineering Education Center (CEEC), University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Peshawar, in collaboration with the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (IEEE).
Over 150 engineers from different departments including C&W, Public Health Engineering, and Irrigation attended the workshop. IEEE Foundation Peshawar (subsection) had extended financial assistance for the training programme. Professor Dr Azzam-ul-Asar said that engineers were trying to address the complex environmental problems associated with natural disaster such as floods and earthquakes. He informed that IEEE had analysed the issue properly after the devastating floods two years ago.
Dr Azzam further said that the IEEE Peshawar was utilising funds for both capacity building of engineers in current and various research projects of applied nature. He informed that a PhD scholar of UET Peshawar was currently conducting research on water purification at Cambridge University which will lead to level of patenting. He assured his co-operation in collaboration with local agencies to help build research base through the platform of IEEE.
