PML-N for revisiting foreign policy

01 Apr, 2012

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Secretary Information Senator Mushahidullah Khan has said that the PPP-led government will have to revisit the country's foreign policy otherwise PML-N will not support the proposed resolution on foreign policy.
Talking to Business Recorder after addressing a seminar on 'Need of new provinces in Pakistan and media' organised by Hameed Nizami Press Institute of Pakistan on Saturday, the PML-N leader said that his party had already expressed apprehensions over some clauses of the proposed resolution on foreign policy. He was of the view that the present government had followed policies of Pervez Musharraf that caused much harm to the country and nation.
"We agree with the resolution wholeheartedly but we are only concerned about its implementation. We cannot allow anybody to compromise on national security and sovereignty." Earlier, addressing the seminar Senator Mushahidullah Khan said the PML-N was not against the creation of new provinces in the country. The new provinces must be established on administrative grounds, he said, adding that the country was facing a lot of problems and the need of the hour is to focus on resolution of current issues. He was of the view that creation of new provinces in Punjab or other provinces was not an issue, the real issue was resolution of core issues.
PML-Q leader Senator S.M. Zafar said that as per constitutional provision, new province can be created only through a constitutional amendment, which must be passed by two-third majority of both the Houses of the parliament, and a constitution amendment bill that can alter the limits of a province cannot be presented to the President for assent unless it has been passed by not less than two-third of the total membership of that province.
