04 Apr, 2012

City District Government Lahore has assigned the Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO) to run all the slaughter houses of the city to ensure provision of quality, cheaper and hygienic meat to the citizen. An agreement was signed between the PAMCO, City District Government and TMAs in this regard, said a spokesman of the company here on Tuesday.
According to the details of the agreement, PAMCO would shift the load of all the old slaughter houses to the newly built 'Lahore Meat Complex' in a phased manner. While the old slaughter houses would be converted in to wholesale centres for sale of meat after necessary repair and cleanliness. Delivery of meat from new slaughter houses to old slaughter houses would be free of cost by the Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO).
It was also agreed that the slaughtering fee would be reduced as compared to earlier rates to keep the prices of meat in control. PAMCO Chief Executive Officer Dr. Hamid Jalil speaking on this occasion said that the company had registered over 2500 livestock farms in its efforts to provide quality meat to the citizen. He said that more livestock farms are being convinced to join hands with the company. He hoped that increase in animal supply to the slaughtering house would result decrease in the meat prices.
