Nato supplies, drone attacks: MQM underscores need for taking nation into confidence

04 Apr, 2012

Chief of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) urged on Tuesday political leaders, military commanders and the establishment to take the nation into confidence on matters of Nato supplies and drone attacks. He called upon the government, military, establishment and members of the Parliamentary Committee for National Security to clearly inform the nation of their requirements, difficulties and compulsions on the issues, bearing in mind the demands and apprehensions of Nato countries.
He said that competent authorities should avoid making irrelevant and ambiguous statements and they should also inform the nation about the country's current economic conditions. Stressing the need for finding out pragmatic solutions to problems facing the country, he said that for curing chronic diseases, even bitter pills would have to be swallowed, adding that the bitterness could be reduced by adding sweeteners. Being a student of history, he said that he knew it was better to face realities than escaping, adding that threats did not just disappear by avoiding them like an ostrich.
