Mutahida Transport Action Committee (MTAC) of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday asked government to withdraw recent increase in petroleum products and CNG prices within three days otherwise they would observe wheel jam strike.
Speaking at a press conference at Pirwadhai Bus Stand, MTAC representatives Malik Sultan Awan, Malik Mehboob Ellahi, Mehar Khan Niazi and Raja Asad Mehmood said that the federal and provincial governments were killing people economically because of their wrong policies.
They also said that the provincial government has increased fine/penalty from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 despite protests by the transporters. They said that the transporters gathered at Pirwadhai Bus stand to decide the future course of action after increase in petroleum and CNG prices was announced and developed consensus that wheel jam strike to be observed if the government fails to reduce the petroleum and CNG prices. The MTAC representatives said that the wagon and Suzuki owner managed to earn Rs 500 daily after meeting all the expenses and it would be difficult for them to manage their kitchen expenses with this meager earning.
