CG delivers lecture on 'Islam in France' at SU

Christian Ramage Consul General of French Consulate Karachi has said that education is the priority of France government and every child of five year age must go to school. All universities in France are in public sector, which are subscribed by the government.
He was delivering a lecture on Islam in France at Nelson Mandela Hall of the department of International Relations University of Sindh during his visit on Tuesday. The Consul General said that around 8 per cent of French population is of the Muslims and they are highly protected in France by the law of the land.
Most of Muslims live in France are French the Counsel General said. He said that the government of France has provided freedom of religion and added that Islam is second largest religion in France. He said that schools are very important and a neutral places and we believe that the education improve the life of people. He said that French Universities, Colleges and schools have been providing free education and added that any child living in France of five year of age must go school. Our priority is the education and welfare of the people the consul General said.
He said that the France is providing education and health at free of cost. He said that motto of the French republic is liberty, equality and fraternity and we want to promote values. He said that we still fight against inequalities since the French revolution and added that this is basic of our values. Highlighting historical background of France the Consul General said that before the French Revolution there was kingdom, which remains more than 1000 years.
He said that France have witnessed five republics which includes republic was in 1792, second was during 1848-1852, 3rd was 1870 to 1940, 4th was during 1946 to 1958 and we live in 5th since 1958. He said that France is 5th economy of the world and 5th largest populated country among European countries. He said that France is rich in its cultural and values.
The Chairperson of the department International Relations Dr Azra Knadhar speaking on the occasion said that French culture and language was an icon of European civilisation and is popular in our region too. She said that even today many French scholars are doing their research on Sufism in Sindh.
