No let-up in targeted killings; 11 die

There was no let up in targeted killings as 11 more persons including a policeman, political activist and Pesh Imam (prayer leader) were killed in separate incidents at various parts of the metropolis on Saturday. According to police and rescue sources, a bullet-riddled body of a man was found near DC Office, North Nazimabad in the limits of Pirabad police station.
The victim, who was later identified as Imran Baloch, 25 son of Abdul Ghafoor Baloch and a resident of Sultanabad Manghopir, was found dead near DC Office, Sakhi Hassan, North Nazimabad. SHO Kamal Naseem said unidentified men, who penetrated four bullets in Imran's body, threw him at the said place and sped away. He said the victim is said to be associated with Lyari gangsters and was arrested twice.
Naseem further said the victim was earlier living in Ilyas Goth, Liaquatabad and was recently shifted to Sultanabad, Manghopir. Moreover, he said the deceased was kidnapped from unknown place and then killed after severe torture. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico legal formalities and later handed over to his family. No case was registered till filing of this report. An Afghani garbage collector was gunned down at Baldia Town in the limits of Baldia police station. The incident took place at Sector 4 1/2 Baldia where an Afghani garbage collector was targeted by unidentified armed men when he was going to somewhere on his bicycle. Resultantly, he received a single bullet in his head and died on the spot. Police said the victim has been identified as Barkat Khan, 22.
They said he was the resident of Afridi Colony, Baldia and hailed from Afghanistan. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico legal formalities and then handed over to his family. A case was registered against unidentified men on the complaint of the State. Another bullet-riddled body was found from Korangi area in the precincts of Ibrahim Hyderi police station. SHO Naik Mohammad Jakhrani said police on the information of area people found a body, which was lying in the bushes located in Sector 51-C, Korangi. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico legal formalities.
He said the victim, who was later identified as Shahid, 24 son of Afzal, a resident of Barelvi Colony, Shah Faisal Town, was employed in a private company. He said the victim went missing since Friday night and added that he was kidnapped and then killed after brutal torture. Jakhrani said the victim, who hailed from southern Punjab and received a single bullet on his face, had two marriages that might have been the reason of his killing. No case was registered till filing of this report.
Another gunshot body of a rickshaw driver was recovered near Navy building in the jurisdiction of Landhi police station. The victim, who was identified as Khurram alias Shani, 22 son of Sardar Ali, was resident of Korangi sector 51-B. SHO Mazhar Iqbal Awan said the victim was a rickshaw driver and was targeted by unknown armed shooters when he left his home for work early Saturday. He said the victim had no affiliation with any political or religious party and might have been murdered over personal enmity.
A trader was killed near his house located in Hazara Chowk Orangi Town in the precincts of Pirabad police station. The victim Zar Gul, 45 son of Sher Gul, a resident of Hazara Chowk located in Sector E of Orangi Town No 4 was targeted when he was sitting near his home. Resultantly, he received bullet injuries and died on the spot.
SHO Waqar Jadoon said the victim was a trader in cloth market and hailed from Afghanistan. He suspected that he might have been killed over personal ground as his family members in their statements informed police that he had serious dispute with his nephew and other relatives. The body was shifted to ASH for post mortem and later handed over to his family. No case was registered till filing of this report.
A 42-year-old man was shot dead in Mina Bazaar near flour mills in the jurisdiction of PIB police station. The victim Abdul Karim Ghanchi, 42, son of Dawood Ghanchi, a resident of PIB, was targeted by unknown armed men when he was sitting on his pushcart at Mina Bazaar near flour mills in front of Iqbal Nimco shop.
Resultantly, he received two bullets and died on the spot. The body was shifted to JPMC for medico legal formalities. Inquiry Officer (IO) ASI Rana Ajmal said the victim was the resident of same area where the incident took place and he used to run a outlet of "Garam Masala" at Mina Bazaar. He said the victim had no political or religious affiliation and suspected that he might have been killed over the suspicious of being an informer.
Needless to mention, PIB area remained volatile for last several days where two MQM workers, three policemen and four others were killed in last two weeks. Following the killings, tension prevailed in PIB area and other surroundings where all shops were closed due to uncertain conditions. A policeman was killed while three others including two cops sustained bullet injures in the limits of Sohrab Goth police station.
The victim has been identified as Rizwan son of Naik Mohammad while three others injured were Syed Abbas, Rizwan and a passer-by namely Sardar Mohammad. Police shifted them to nearest private hospital and later moved to ASH for medical treatment. DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said that former SHO Sohrab Goth Azam Mehsud, his brother Sher Zaman Mehsud and other accomplices, who were staging protest demonstration at Super Highway against their nomination in the Malir blast, were dispersed by police party. Later, in reaction, two unknown armed men sprayed policemen with bullets when they were taking tea at Malik Agha Hotel. Resultantly, a police constable died on the spot while three others including two policemen received bullet injuries.
An activist of PPP namely Shahid was shot dead while three others injured in a drive-by shooting at a café located near Saifee College in the limits of Hyderi checkpost. DSP Abdul Rasheed said victim Shahid was former member of People's Party Zakat Committee. The body and the injured persons were taken to ASH for legal formalities.
Similarly, a Pesh Imam was gunned down at Akbar Baloch Goth near Ghaghar Phatak in the limits of Steel Town police station. The victim Arif, 27 son of Ajab Khan was assaulted when he was on way to home after offering Maghrib prayers. A taxi driver Khursheed Tanoli was shot dead near Airport signal in the limits of Airport police station. SHO Airport Noor Mohammad Wassan said the victim was the resident of Shah Faisal Colony and was gunned down by another taxi driver after a hot debate.
