Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Punjab government is taking solid steps for promotion of healthy activities in the province. He said that they were moving forward speedily for filling the void existing for the last many decades with regard to the provision of sports opportunities to the youth.
He said that playgrounds of hockey, cricket and other sports of international standard were being constructed on the government land retrieved from the Gabza groups throughout the province.
He said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Muhammad Ali Johar Sports Complex in Johar Town, here Sunday.
He said that another milestone in the history of Lahore had been achieved with the construction of Muhammad Ali Johar Sports Complex in Johar Town. Quality and healthy recreational opportunities of sports would be available to the youth due to this sports complex, he added.
Provincial Minister for Auqaf Haji Ehsan-un-Din Qureshi, Members National and Provincial Assemblies, Commissioner and District Co-ordination Officer, Lahore, Director General PHA, sports lovers and a large number of players were also present on the occasion.
Sharif observed that healthy minds constituted a healthy nation. He said that sports promoted high values like sportsman spirit and tolerance in human beings. He announced that Punjab would be the province of sports and flowers.
International Cricket Empire Aleem Dar addressing the function said that Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was creating a new hope and infusing the spirit of progress among the youth by providing sports facilities.
Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled the plaque of Muhammad Ali Johar Sports Complex. He was also given a briefing by the PHA with regard to existing sports facilities in this sports complex. The Chief Minister also inaugurated table tennis court and cricket ground on this occasion. He witnessed the table tennis match and also played inaugural shots.
