Political Agent Khyber Agency vows to enforce compulsory education

Political Agent of Khyber Agency Mutahir Zaib Khan has said that strict action would be taken against all those parents and guardians who are refusing to enroll their children in schools.
He said under 18th Constitutional Amendment, the government has declared education compulsory for all children from age five to 16 and if a father or elder brother of a child found guilty for not enrolling their children in school, he will not only be sent to prison, but has to pay heavy amount in shape of fine.
Talking to media in Landikotal, he said that the dreams of establishment of peace and development could not be achieved without education. He visited Landi Kotal and met with tribal elders and government's officials.
To ensure educational and social emancipation of its inhabitants, Mutahir Zaib Khan said the government was giving top priority to imparting education to tribal people for bringing them into national mainstream.
He said new primary schools for girls and boys were being constructed in Landi Kotal and Jamrud Tehsil and several primary schools were up gradated to middle and high schools to discourage dropout ratio. Malik Mehmood Khan middle schools have been upgraded to high school in Landi Kotal with an objective to provide best education facilities to tribesmen at their doorsteps.
The government accords high priority to peace and development of the Khyber Agency and several projects are underway that after completion help bring improvement in the socio-economic condition of tribal people.
He said development and establishment of peace in Khyber Agency was our top priority and no compromise would be made on it. The Agency's administrator said policy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar regarding establishment of durable peace and development in Khyber Agency was yielding positive results. The writ of government in tehsils Landi Kotal, Jamrud and Bara is strengthening with each passing day and the pace of development has been accelerated, he added.
Due to successful and timely action of the government against miscreants and sacrifices of security forces, Levy, Khasadar Force and peace committees of Bara, he said peace was being established in tehsil Bara and closed schools and health centres were reopened.
The agency's administrator said the government was giving top priority to development of communication infrastructure and work on several gigantic projects were underway.
The government is working under a comprehensive plan to eradicate polio from Khyber Agency and run scores of successful campaign to eradicate this crippling disease from Fata, he added. In tehsil Bara, he said, anti polio campaign was successfully run and up to 20,000 children were administered Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV).
Mutahir Zaib said tribal people were fully co-operating with political administration in eradication of polio from Khyber Agency. He said polio could only be defeated by administrating OPV to each child under five years of age.
He directed the Assistant Political Agents and Tehsildars to address problems of people on priority basis and if a person arrested in violation of government's rules and laws should be produced before courts within 24 days.
Earlier, Mutahir Zaib Khan inaugurated the spring tree plantation campaign and planted a sapling at Khyber House Landi Kotal.
The Khyber Agency was named after the famous Khyber Pass and was famous for its rich history, mineral potential and strategic location being gateway to Central Asian Republics and shared 80-kilometer long border with neighboring Afghanistan.
