An application seeking exemption from appearance before the court in a contempt of court case was filed on Monday by the counsel for former law minister Babar Awan. Contempt of court adjudication was initiated by the Supreme Court while Awan spoke against an apex court decision at a press conference.
The court had passed on December 1, 2011 a verdict on the formation of a judicial commission to probe the Memogate scandal for which hearing is due Tuesday (today). Ali Zafar, counsel for Awan, contended in his petition that his client wanted to have a medical checkup during his recent visit to India till April 17, saying Awan may be exempted on medical grounds from appearing before the court.
