An anti-terrorism court (ATC) extended on Tuesday physical remand of Imran Khan, the key suspect involved in the rape and murder of Zainab in Kasur.

According to local media reports, Imran was presented before the court today, a day before his 14-day physical remand ended. Police requested the court for extension in Imran's remand for further investigation. The court accepted the request and handed over his custody to the police.

Zainab’s suspected murderer sent on 14 days remand

Imran was arrested on January 23 when his DNA matched with samples taken from Zainab’s body. Imran was also involved in eight other incidents that had occurred in Kasur over the past several months. The suspect also confessed to luring the girls by giving them sweets or money.

An ATC on January 24 had sent Imran on 14-day remand, during which the police had been expected to further investigate his involvement in similar rape incidents.

The minor girl was raped and murdered after being abducted on January 4. Her body was found at a garbage dump site, five days after she went missing.
