In-service courses made compulsory for judges

Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Sheikh Azmat Saeed has said that promotion and posting of judicial officers would be linked to their skills and expertise. He was speaking at a meeting with the delegation of Shariah course participants on Tuesday.
Justice Saeed said a series of in-service training courses had been launched and in future, promotions and posting of judges would be subject to condition of attending such courses. The CJ said that in armed forces, an Admiral had to undergo 18 to 20 training courses while in civil services a secretary hardly attends 2 or 3 courses whereas in judiciary ratio of such courses was zero.
Justice Saeed said Pakistan possessed a vertical society entailing complex traditions, norms and values. There should be a similar judicial system with identical laws throughout the country keeping in view the needs of the people which should not be contradictory with our basic ideologies, he said. The delegation also observed court proceedings of CJ's courtroom.
