Over 4000 megawatts shortfall to hurt Punjab

14 Apr, 2012

Power shortfall continued to stay above 4000MW, leading to extensive load shedding both in urban and rural areas of Punjab. According to Pepco sources, power generation through hydel, thermal and IPPs stood at 2704MW, 1690MW and 5825MW respectively. Meanwhile, power supply to KESC was 680MW. The sources added that power generation reduced mainly due to less hydel generation and dead level at Tarbela reservoir.
Increase in load shedding has also crippled the Pepco in meeting industry exemption, as directed by the President Asif Ali Zardari during his stay in the city. The independent feeders are yet experiencing load shedding and the industry representatives are making efforts to call on the respective authorities to persuade them for implementation of presidential direction.
Meanwhile, power outages on rural feeders were abnormally high, affecting agriculture output and other problems. The urban consumers are also not happy with the present situation. Though pleasant weather was yet restricting mercury rise after every two to three weeks.
