Champions Man United restore five-point advantage at top

16 Apr, 2012

Manchester United took another step closer to winning the Premier League title for a record 20th time as they cruised to a 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday. Wayne Rooney scored twice while Danny Welbeck and Nani got the others as United restored their five-point advantage over rivals and neighbours Manchester City, with just four games remaining.
There was controversy over the first goal on seven minutes when referee Mark Halsey awarded a penalty for a foul on Ashley Young.
Television replays were inconclusive but Rooney stepped up to score from the spot before Welbeck added a second just before half-time.
With Villa barely offering anything by way of attack, Rooney then grabbed his second and United's third with 17 minutes to go.
Nani completed the scoring in injury time to further boost United's goal difference.
United's next fixture is at home to Everton next Sunday while City travel to bottom side Wolverhampton Wanderers on the same day.
