17 Apr, 2012

Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad has directed Managing Director of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) Misbahuddin Farid to lay a separate pipeline on priority basis for the tannery zone of Korangi Industrial Area. He issued this directive during a meeting with the delegation of Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) at the Governor's House on Monday.
The meeting was attended by former president FPCCI S M Muneer, Chairman PTA S M Naseem, Chairman PTA and others. Ibad directed the KWSB MD to submit a revised PC-1 without delay for laying a separate water pipeline for the tannery zone so that the project could be initiated as soon as possible.
The Governor agreed to the fact that regular supply of fresh water would go a long way in improving the quality of leather produced for export and would enable the industry to fetch much higher prices and volume of business from customers abroad and eventually increase the earning of foreign exchange for the country.
The KWSB MD assured that the new PC-1 would be submitted in the shortest possible time for consideration and approval. He also informed that the KWSB had also installed two Reverse Osmosis Plants with two million gallons per day capacity each for the tannery zone.
The Governor also instructed KMC Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan to take up immediate cleanliness drive and follow the solid waste removal plan jointly approved by KITE, KATI and PTA (SZ). S.M. Muneer emphasised that laying and maintenance of roads was primarily the job of the government and requested the Governor to help the leather industry in this matter as the road network of Tannery Zone was almost non-existent. The Karachi Commissioner assured that solid-waste disposal plan would be fully implemented. He also assured to remove all administrative obstacles so that the leather industry could function smoothly.
