Awareness drive on historic sites launched in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Directorate of Archaeology and Museums Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched awareness drive for highlighting the significance of historic sites in the province. Under the campaign, a guided tour arranged to visit the remains of Takht Bhai and Jamal Garhi situated in district Mardan. The participants led by curator Peshawar Museum, Nidaullah Sehrai, and in-charge Nawazuddin visited the both old and historic archaeological sites.
The participants were included senior citizens, students, members of civil society and media persons. Dr Shah Nazar Khan, Director Archaeology and Museums KP briefed about the basic purpose of the guided tour prior visit to historic ruins of Bakht Bhai and Jamal Garhi. He said that there are number of ancient remains and other historic places of the ancient era were present in the province, having much historic importance. The Curator Peshawar Museum, Nidaullah Sehrai, while highlighted the importance of the remains of Gandhara civilisation of Takht Bhai and Jamal Garhi, and said that the new relics of different period had been discovered after excavation at the sites.
He informed the participants about the great emperor Ashoka Stupa and its historic background. The participants took keen interest in historic remains of Gandhara civilisation and appreciated the step of the directorate of Archaeology and Museums, KPK. They urged the awareness programme should continue to get further information about historic places.
