Intellectual property laws being revised: Chairman IPO

The Chairman IPO-Pakistan Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi said on Tuesday that the Intellectual Property (IP) Laws are being revised by proposing suitable amendments after consultation of all stakeholders to take action against the elements involved in violation of IP rights.
While taking to media persons at IPO-Headquarter on Tuesday, he said that the IP Day celebrations would prove as a milestone for economic development of Pakistan. The prominent personalities from business community, representative of multinationals and stakeholders would actively participate in different segments of World IP Day to be organised for highlighting the image of Pakistan in the comity of nations.
The chairman said that in accordance with the global importance of IP rights, the present government is giving due consideration to strengthen IP management systems in the country by extending legal protection to creators and IP right owners. He also said that IP Laws are being amended by proposing suitable amendments after consultation of all stakeholders so that the elements found involved in violation of IP rights, should be put to the task under the law.
Afridi replying to a question said that private sector has been given due representation in constitution of new policy board of IPO. Similarly, in order to protect the rights and provision of royalties to the performers including singers, writers, artists and musicians, the Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) would be encouraged.
Afridi underlined that media can play vital role in creating awareness about the importance and benefits of IP rights in the country. In this context World IP Day will be celebrated with national zeal and all stakeholders as well as other public and private sector organisations would be invited so that every segment of society could be aware about IP rights and their benefits on behalf of which national and international investors may get maximum benefits by protection of their rights. The chairman expressed firm commitment that World IP Day 2012 would open new door of socio-eco development of the country.-PR
