Senior Dawn journalist found dead

Dawn newspaper says one of its senior journalists has been murdered in Karachi. In a report on its website, Dawn says Murtaza Razvi was murdered early Thursday. His body was found in an apartment in an upscale area of the city. It was not clear if the killing was related to his work. Razvi was the editor of magazines at the Dawn newspaper group and a respected journalist. Police officer Farukh Ali said Razvi was strangled.
The paper said Razvi's hands were tied and his body had signs of torture. He was found dead in his apartment on Khayaban-e-Shamshir near DHA Khadda market, police said Thursday. A police official in PS Darakhshan said that police was investigating the reasons behind his death. His body bearing marks of strangulation was found in the afternoon from his apartment No 102, building No 5 on 10th lane, but the police suspected that he was killed during the Wednesday night, he added. Razvi's funeral will be held at Jama Masjid Yasrab in Phase-IV, DHA, after Juma prayers on Friday, according to Dawn website.-Agencies
Our reporter adds: Murtaza Razvi, 48, son of Tahir Razvi, was strangulated to death in his studio located in Khayaban-e-Shamsheer, Defence Phase-V, in the jurisdiction of Darkhshan police station. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. DIG Police South Commander Shoukat said that police has initiated probe into the incident.
