17 killed in various parts of Karachi

The killing spree in the city intensified on Friday, claiming as many as 17 lives in various localities of the city. Several people were injured in violence across the city. Police officials said that the Orangi Town area remained the most volatile, where vandalism over ethnic grounds continued the whole day. Two bullet-riddled bodies were found near the area's KMC hospital in Sector 11/1 and a marriage hall.
The deceased were later identified as Mukhtiar Alam and Yaqoob Atta Muhammad. Both victims, reportedly affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), had been abducted before being killed. Another MQM worker Shoaib Sohail was killed when unknown armed men opened indiscriminate fire at a restaurant in the Ramswami area. Tension prevailed in Orangi and surrounding areas following the killings of MQM workers.
Two persons, Kamran and Nawab Khan, were killed when rival ethnic groups engaged in an armed clash. A man named Salman was wounded at the Qazafi Chowk in Orangi Town. A man, later identified as Abdul Hamid, was shot dead in a firing incident in the Aligarh Colony. The man lived in Kunwari Colony. Three more men were killed when gunmen opened fire on people near a bus stop in Hariana Colony near Aslam Shaheed Chowk. The deceased were identified as Mairaj, 19, Imtiaz and Qadir, 17. Another man, Fayyaz, was injured. In another firing incident at Toori Bangash Chowki on the Shah Waliullah Road, a truck driver, Wazeer Khan, 35, was killed. Two of his brothers, Fazlur Rehman, 18, and Rafiq Roshan, were injured.
In the Jamshed Town area, unidentified gunmen shot and killed a rickshaw driver named Abdul Ghaffar Baloch. He lived in Orangi Town. In Sohrab Goth, police found a bullet-riddled body from New Subzi Mandi, near Chakar Hotel. The victim was identified as Babar Bux.
A man named Abdul Rehman, 23, who used to live in Dawood Goth in Malir, was found dead in the limits of Memon Goth police station. Another man named Gul Sher was targeted at Dastagir No9 in Federal B Area in the remits of the Jauharabad police station. The victim worked as a cobbler. Several Malir areas were tense after a local office-bearer of the Jiye Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Tariq Katchi, was shot dead. One of his coworker, namely Usman Ghani, was injured. Police quoted local people as saying that the deceased was distributing pamphlets about the JSQM strike when he was killed. The victim was a resident of D-1 Area of Malir. Another man, Rafiq Khan, was shot dead near Anda More in North Karachi in the limits of Sharah Noor Jahan police station. A 38-year-old man, Badaruddin, was gunned down at a bus stand in New Karachi No 5. Meanwhile, law-enforcement agencies have claimed to have arrested over two dozen suspects during the ongoing security operation.
