There is a need for the country's youth to foster human values of fraternity, brotherhood and truthfulness, Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza said on Friday. In a message on the occasion of the death anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, she urged the nation to personify the poet's teachings in their personal and social lives to overcome challenges being confronted by the country.
Highlighting Iqbal's inspirational poetry, she said the poetry and thoughts of Allama Iqbal had woken Muslims of the sub-continent up from their deep slumber and injected spirit of independence and freedom. Dr Fehmida Mirza said that Allama Iqbal had urged Muslims to regain their past glory by holding steadfast to the teachings of Quran and Sunnah.
She said Iqbal's ideas were progressive and called for advancement in philosophical interpretation as extremist elements were interpreting Islamic scripture and verses to pursue their nefarious designs. She said Iqbal believed in religion as a living force to be interpreted in the light of modern thoughts, opening up fresh avenues, perspectives and constructive views.
The NA Speaker advised the youth to adopt a role that personifies the human values of fraternity, brotherhood and truthfulness in their personal and social lives. She also urged them to idealise Allama Iqbal and adopt traits of honesty and dedication in their routine affairs.
