The government is assigning top priority to Kurram Tangi dam project and will allocate enough funds for its completion in the next fiscal budget, federal Minister for Water and Power, Naveed Qamar said on Friday. He was addressing at the inaugural ceremony of 132-KV grid station at Paizu in Lakki Marwat district.
Criticising previous governments for not paying enough attention on the energy issue, he said that this was the reason why the country was facing immense electricity shortages. He, however, said that the government had taken all possible steps to address energy issues.
He said that there was a need to decrease the incidence of power theft. He said that the government had initiated a number of schemes for developing hydro potential for overcoming the energy crisis. Urging officials concerned to resolve power-related problems on a priority basis, he expressed the hope that the electricity demand would be fulfilled in Lakki Marwat after the installation of the grid station.
The government, he said, was aware of water problems confronted by the people in southern areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He also directed the Pesco to complete a survey report for distribution transformers, saying that the government would provide funds for this purpose.
