Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), German International Co-operation (GIZ), Training and Development Centre for the Bavarian Employers' Association (BFZ) organised a four-day Energy Manager Training Programme for the industry professionals involved in energy management in the industry.
The objective of this training programme was to upgrade the existing skills and knowledge of energy managers to carry out energy conservation activities on continual basis on their own. The topics discussed in Energy Management System application included; energy auditing, energy efficiency improvement opportunities in electrical, mechanical and thermal system and renewable energy technologies potential for the industry.
Around 65 participants from textile associations, like APTMA, PHMA and PRGMEA attended the training programme. While speaking at the concluding ceremony, Strahel Martin (International Co-ordinator, BFZ), highlighted the Bfz role in promoting energy efficiency in the textile sector.
Chairman APTMA (Punjab Zone) Ahsan Bashir said that the textile industry has realised the importance of conserving energy. In this respect APTMA in support with SMEDA and GIZ is establishing a sustainable production centre to promote cleaner production technologies and energy efficiency best practices in the member mills. Component Manager, Energy Efficiency GIZ Abbas Mahmood said the Energy Manager Training Programme is specifically designed to develop in-house capacity of the industry to plan and implement energy efficiency improvement measures.
He also highlighted that application of Energy Management System (EMS) is the sustainable way for continual improvement of energy intensity in the industrial sector. SMEDA Deputy General Manager Fayyaz A. Riaz said that the demand side management initiatives will help reduce the supply and demand gap of energy in the country.
