22 Apr, 2012

Power shortfall continued the current week as well as, the independent sources claimed the shortfall has exceeded 6,000MW leading to power outages for long duration. Especially, the rural areas were the worst hit, as 20 hours of load shedding is taking place in there with 10 to 12 hours load shedding in urban areas. According to the sources, demand for electricity is 15,500MW while supply is only 8,500MW at present.
Short supply of fuel to the thermal and water to reservoirs was hampering actual utilisation of capacities; therefore, the crisis is worsening with every passing day. Not only the Punjab, but rest of the provinces is also facing similar load shedding ranging between minimum six hours to maximum 12 hours a day.
