Rs 2.4 million extended to flood-hit farmers in Mian Gujar

A grant of Rs 2.4 million rupees extended to more than 80 flood affected farmers and vendors belonging to Mian Gujar, district Peshawar. Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda), an implementing partner of UNDP-funded under "Early recovery and restoration of flood affected communities programme" distributed grant cheques in a formal ceremony here at Mian Gujar.
The grant of Rs 30,000 was distributed among each small farmer and vendor, whose business adversely affected in flash floods. Programme Provincial Co-ordinator Noor Zeba, while addressing her welcome address, explained the aims and objectives of the ER-project and said the project had been practically executed in different flood affected areas and all kind of its benefits extended to deserving people.
She maintained that they had organised several training programme and awareness session under the project as per proposal and recommendations of the locals of the flood hit areas. She said the grant had been extended following a proper scrutiny process to keep high transparency and fairness in its distribution.
On the occasion, Sultan Tiwana, Smeda, National Programme Manager; Noor Zeba, programme Provincial Co-ordinator; Mohsin Hasham, Co-ordinator Business Support Centre, district Peshawar; former Nazim Gohar Khan and members of village advisory committee, notable of the areas and beneficiary were present. "The grant would be helpful to revive flood affected businesses and economic development in the area," said Sultan Tiwana, Smeda National Programme Manager, while addressing at distribution ceremony.
He urged the beneficiaries to utilise grant in a proper way to pick up their flood hit businesses. He suggested that there should be formed different committees on Agriculture, Livestock, Handicraft, and other skill development work to get new ideas and proposal for development of businesses. "We would extend maximum financial assistance for economic development of the region", the smeda NPM said. Later, Sultan Tiwana distributed cheques among the beneficiaries.
