The Sindh government has decided to maintain a record of people living in rented properties so that police could take prompt action against anti-social elements, it is learnt. The Sindh Home Department issued a notification, imposing Section 144 of the CrPc under which no owner of the house could rent out his property without informing the police station concerned.
Under the notification, people seeking house on rent should submit data, including a copy of their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) and affidavits of both the parties concerned. Sources told Business Recorder that the new law was framed out to discourage criminal elements living on rent in various areas of the metropolis.
After the Raymond Davis incident in Lahore, the Sindh government had previously decided to impose a ban on renting out properties. But the ban was lifted and police was required to monitor rented properties. After the notification, all station house officers (SHOs) would be responsible for monitoring property rentals. Sources said that strict action would be taken against people violating the government's decision.
