Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab on Health, Kh. Salman Rafique has directed the concerned authorities to make foolproof drainage arrangements before commencement of monsoon season and dewatering from open plots in the co-operative and other housing societies also be ensured to check dengue breeding.
He stated this while presiding over Cabinet committee meeting to review the implementation on the measures taken by different departments for prevention and control of dengue, here on Tuesday. Besides elected public representatives of Lahore, Secretaries, Additional Secretaries and other senior officers of concerned departments attended the meeting.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said that due to the effective and consolidated efforts by the different departments which has made possible to control dengue population. All the officers gave briefings regarding the performance of their respective departments. The meeting was informed that vigorous vector surveillance and larviciding drive is continued during which dengue larva was detected from inside eight houses and two open places in Data Gunj Bakhsh Town, Aziz Bhatti Town, Nishter Town, Wahga and Shalimar Town and that was immediately eradicated through mechanical method.
The meeting was also informed that training of doctors and paramedics of 18 districts has already been completed whereas training arrangements for the remaining 18 districts are finalised. Moreover, Education Department with the collaboration of Punjab Education Foundation has distributed printed literature regarding dengue awareness among 48 thousand private schools.
The Education Department also distributed 20 million books pertaining literature about dengue among the students of government schools and 10 million dengue books among private schools. Kh. Salman Rafique directed the concerned departments to rectify the issues pointed out by the public representatives including de-silting of drains, dewatering from various open places and lifting of garbage.
