The 2018 Winter Olympics marked its start in Pyeongchang, South Korea with an amazing opening ceremony. Intel added extra lights to the ceremony by creating a light show from a record-breaking 1,218 drones.

A month ago, Intel put up a drone show at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show with the help of 250 drones. This time it broke all records by lighting up skies with Intel’s 1,218 Shooting Stars drones, illustrating 3D images including a snowboarder and the Olympic rings in the skies.

“It’s in essence technology meeting art,” said Anil Nanduri, general manager of Intel's drone group, Wired reported.

As Engadget reports, the drone show, initially planned to go live was, however, pre-recorded because of Pyeongchang’s cold and windy weather conditions that can affect drone performance, and also because of logistics issues. But, the company plans on putting up a smaller-scale live drone show consisting of 300 drones at the time of medal ceremonies.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Intel’s 1,218 drone show set up a record for ‘most unmanned aerial vehicles airborne simultaneously’.
