Pakistan International Airlines' Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman has shown his resolve to improve the conditions especially in the field of punctuality of flights and "no compromise on safety and technical issues."
In a meeting with President, PIA Retired Employees Association (PIAREA), Brigadier Syed Tahir Hasan (Retd) in his office here last week, he sympathised with the problems of retired employees. At the same time he was informed about the problems presently being faced by the national carrier. He also explained his vision for improving the credibility and national flag carrier and explained some of the efforts made by him for improvement of retired employees conditions in his past assignments.
PIAREA President congratulated the Managing Director on his assumption of the command of PIA and his concern over the deteriorating condition of the airline. He appreciated management's decision to form PIA Foundation to benefit the serving and retired employees and their families as well as the airline.
He demanded for an immediate increase in pension, primarily at the rate of increase awarded to serving employees in 2011 and sorting out the anomaly in pensions of different trades in PIA. He also suggested rate of pension similar to the government employees. The Managing Director was requested to formulate a high powered committee which should have representation from PIAREA and was handed over a brief about the Association and some of the problems which need immediate redress. PIAREA President appreciated the gesture of goodwill shown by the PIA Managing Director.
