The educational institutions of Peshawar would observe "Pink Ribbon Day" on May 15 to create awareness among masses regarding deadly breast cancer and preventive measures. A non-governmental organisation "Pink Ribbon" in collaboration with Higher Education Commission would hold event in nine educational institutions of the city, said Chief Executive of the organisation Omer Aftab here on Monday.
He said the purpose of observing the PRD was to show their love support towards breast cancer patients and survivors and to create awareness among the people. He said that as many as 40,000 females died every year due to breast cancer despite the fact that the disease was curable in 90 percent cases.
Referring to a recent survey, he said the ratio of breast cancer in teenage girls was increasing and due to the reason the day was being observed in educational institutions to make the female students aware. He said that early detection of the disease in the early stage minimise the risk as well as lessening the cost of the treatment.
