The Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister for Relief Haleem Adil Shaikh has directed the authorities concerned for conducting two separate departmental inquiries into the incident of breach that occurred yesterday evening in Rohri Canal near village Bakhar Jamali Taluka Saeedabad, inundating and damaging to the crops, villages and public and private properties.
He directed for conducting inquiry by Irrigation and District Administration Matiari separately to examine the causes of breach and fix the responsibility impartially. The advisor issued such directives while talking to the media persons during his visit at the Site of breach and relief camps installed in the area on Monday. The Commissioner Hyderabad Ahmed Bux Narejo, Deputy Commissioner Matiari Shahid Leghari, Secretary Irrigation Babar Afandi accompanied the advisor.
The advisor said that in case of involvement or negligence strict action will be taken against official of the irrigation department. Expressing his dissatisfaction over ongoing work for plugging the breach and re-strengthening the bank of canal, the advisor directed the concerned authorities to further expedite their efforts in such a way so that breach is plugged in this evening or night.
The advisor also handed over a cheque of Rs 5 million to Commissioner Hyderabad for providing immediate rescue and relief to the affected people and directed the Commissioner Hyderabad and education officials to provide alternate facilities to the students of the schools which converted into relief camps, so that their study or examination may not suffer.
Responding to a question, the advisor said the government is giving priority to plug the breach first, rather than indulging in to allegations. However, he maintained that different inquiries will be conducted impartially and whosoever found responsible or negligent will be taken to task.
He expressed his concern over the losses sustained by the poor people and assured them that the government would not left them alone but to provide relief to them for their losses. He directed to the District Administration to declare emergency and provide full rescue & relief to the affected people and try their best to save the villages from inundation by erecting ring bunds.
