Taiwan stocks reversed early losses to end 0.25 percent higher on Tuesday, outperforming regional peers, boosted by a 3.5 percent rise in smartphone maker HTC Corp and solid gains for oil and gas stocks. Contract electronics maker Hon Hai fell 1.7 percent after reporting a record-low consolidated gross margin in the first quarter.
The main TAIEX index rose 18.46 points to 7,395.64, after opening down 0.66 percent. Electronics shares advanced 0.58 percent while financial shares fell 0.83 percent. The Taiwan dollar was down by T$0.025 to trade at T$29.527. Foreign investors were net sellers on Monday, bringing their total selling to T$49.707 billion this month.
