A prime suspect in the murder of journalist Wali Khan Babar namely Liaquat Ali was killed in an alleged police encounter in the limits of Darakshan police station. According to police, a police patrolling party intercepted three bikes carrying six persons on the complaint of the inhabitant that some armed men were busy in looting valuables from the citizens at Sea View in the jurisdiction of Darakshan police station on Saturday.
Resultantly, the gunfight triggered between the armed men and police near a restaurant at Sea View. After brief encounter, the police have claimed to have arrested two wounded armed men, police said. Meanwhile, four other accomplices managed to flee from the scene under the cover of heavy gunshots. SHO Shafiq Tanoli said the man namely Farooq informed the police patrolling party that he was robbed by armed men on motorbikes at Sea View. Reacting on his information, the police, who were looking for the suspects spotted them near a restaurant on three bikes.
Seeing police close to them, the suspects opened indiscriminate gunshots on police mobile, leaving a police constable Waqas injured. In retaliation, the police managed to have arrested two of the six suspects in injured conditions, he said and added that all three injured were later moved to the Civil Hospital where one of the suspects succumbed to his injures. Moreover, he said the deceased was later identified as Liaquat Ali, who was the prime accused in the murder of Wali Khan Babar while the injured suspect was known as Rashid alias Chamber.
He said the Liaquat was nominated in the FIR lodged in Super Market police station in Wali Babar's murder and his other aides in the same case are already facing trial. The Darakshan police also claimed to have recovered two TT pistols and a snatched motorbike (KEM 1709) from their possession. Needless to mention, Wali Babar, who associated with private news channel, was gunned down in January 2011 when he was on the way to his home from work near Liaquatabad Super Market.
