Three Fesco workers and a passer-by youngster were badly injured when a gang of power pilferers opened fire on a checking team in Chak No186 Dogranwala in the Chak Jhumra area.
Taking strong notice of the incident, federal Minister for Water and Power Naveed Qamar and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) Tariq Mehmood Chattha directed quarters concerned to initiate criminal proceedings against the culprits. They have also announced free medical treatment along with a compensation of Rs10,000 for every injured person.
The incident occurred when a Fesco team conducted a snap check in Chak Jhumra Sub-Division No1. The power pilferers opened up fire when the Fesco team tried to shift the meters from personal premises to electric poles.
As a result, Munir Ahmed, Muhammad Sabir (line men) and Muhammad Anwar (foreman) were injured. They were rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Chak Jhumra, where their condition is reported to be out of danger.
Meanwhile, power pilferers fled the scene, evading police action.
Fesco employees retaliated by cutting off the electricity supply to this area from the grid station. However, the power was restored to the area, excluding the particular village, on the intervention of higher authorities.
