Budget session: security beefed up in capital

In the wake of increasing threats of terrorist attacks, the capital police have made comprehensive security arrangements for budget session to avert any untoward incident in the capital. Following the directives from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muhammad Yousuf Malik, security has been beefed up in the city and extra deployment has also been made in various areas.
Contingents of Rangers are assisting the capital police in the security arrangements. Four officers of Superintendent of Police (SP) level would also monitor security arrangements, a police official said. He said that around 3,000 cops of Islamabad Police and Rangers have been deployed in different parts of the city. He said that the capital police have also started combing the slum areas, besides the direction to ensure extra vigilance at bus stands and other public places. Deployment of huge contingent of police personnel will be ensured at important locations of the city including intersections and main markets
The police commandos have been deputed in and around sensitive buildings including Parliament House, Presidency, Prime Minister's Secretariat, Supreme Court and Pak-Secretariat blocks. The law enforcement agencies would also conduct air surveillance of the city and surrounding areas of the parliament during the session. Special police teams have also been constituted by each police station for effective patrolling in its respective jurisdiction.
He said that police officials in civil uniforms have also been assigned the task to keep vigilance against suspicious elements. The high ups of capital police have issued special directives to all senior police officials to conduct checking themselves at all police pickets in their areas and make the security system more effective. They also issued directives for effective co-ordination among all wings of Islamabad police including Operational police, CID Department, Security Division and Special Branch.
The official said that sniffer dogs have been sent at police pickets for effective checking of vehicles. Special search of the forest and green belts of the city has also been ordered. Lady commandoes are also performing security duties, while policemen have been deputed at important signal points of the city. The official said that the strength of police has been increased at entry points of the city to ensure strict checking of vehicles and people coming to the city.
