A multi-purpose 'Model Sasta Bazaar' is being established in the city to provide quality items of daily use to consumers on bargain rates, DCO Naseem Sadiq said on Thursday. He was presiding over a meeting held to review arrangements for the model bazaar.
The DCO stated that the model bazar was set up on 13 acres of land in front of the old octroi on the Jhang Road. Terming it a remarkable welfare project, he said that the consumers would not only be able to purchase essential commodities at reduced rates, they would also be able to enjoy a number of recreational facilities. Giving details, the DCO said that the model market would be managed four days a week - Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday - and essential commodities including grocery items, fruit, vegetables, poultry, meat, beverages, cloth and garments, crockery and general and food items would be available.
The DCO said that daily food street would also be held. The market's management, he said, would also provide facilities to hold marriage ceremonies and school functions. A one-day car and motorcycle fair would also be organised every week. He said that a one-day medical camp and a book fair would also be held in the bazaar. Booking of stalls had started and producers/manufacturers of food items would be given priority in this regard, he said. He maintained that the facility of Metro bus service would also be provided for access to the model bazaar. The DCO said that necessary technical and administrative arrangements had been finalised, adding that the market would be run by the Model Bazar Welfare Organisation.
