Punjab University Department of Gender Studies organised an orientation and advocacy seminar on "New laws concerning women" here on Thursday. Member Punjab Assembly Arifa Khalid, Advocate Hina Hafeez Ullah Khan, renowned human rights activist Mumtaz Mughal, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
In her address, Arifa Khalid stressed the youth particularly women to play active role in the development of the country, adding "we must not wait for others to decide for ourselves; rather it's the time to stand and speak for you." She also discussed the Women Empowerment Package announced by the Chief Minister Punjab to mainstream women in development process.
Advocate Hina Hafizullah threw light on legal modalities and shared experience from the court room. Mumtaz Mughal discussed the social and cultural aspects and the implications of the laws in the real life situations. Dr Raana Malik thanked the distinguished speakers for the orientation of the recent legislation to the students which leads to enable them playing active role in the positive transformation of the society.
