08 Jun, 2012

Provincial spokesman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Thursday said that the issuance of death decree against four girls in Kohistan district, was totally untrue and based on falsehood. He said the meeting of women's rights activists with the girls at their native village, had proved that the incident did not happen in Kohistan district.
Addressing a press conference here, Hussain said neither a Jirga took place in Kohistan nor any death decree was issued against the girls, as Maulvi Javed had also categorically denied it. Hussain also termed the dancing video as fake. He said that District Police Officer, District Co-ordination Officer, Commissioner, Provincial Minister for Auqaf, along with representatives of women's rights activists, including Rifat Butt, Farzana Bari, Shabeena Ayaz visited Kohisitan on Thursday. The activists met with the girls Shireen and Robina, who told them that rest of the girls were also alive, he added.
On the permission of the family members, the women activists took pictures and footage of the girls, he said. Hussain further said a Jirga had assured protection of the girls and their family members. "We strongly condemn propagation of the false death decree, as it has tarnished the county's image," he said urging the media not to highlight such issues without any concrete and solid evidence.
