Call for ensuring feed quality of livestock

09 Jun, 2012

Combined laboratories should be set up to ensure the quality of livestock feed, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said on Friday. He was addressing a certificate distribution ceremony after a workshop on 'Veterinary Disease Diagnostic Techniques'.
The workshop was organised by the University's Diagnostic Labs. Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha highlighted the partnership between Telenor and Livestock and Dairy Development Department and said it would benefit farmers in terms of getting timely livestock business information. He said: "The country's poultry sector is the most attractive for investment because it has become the second largest industry after textiles." Urging farmers to realise the importance of the livestock sector, he said that no body could afford animal sickness or economic loss. Ten years ago, he said, the share of livestock in agriculture GDP was 39 per cent, which had now risen to 55.1 per cent.
