Balochistan Finance Minister Mir Asim Kurd has said that an amount of Rs 3.847 million have been allocated for 131 new and 46 ongoing uplift schemes in irrigation sector in the provincial budget 2012-13. Speaking during the provincial assembly budget session here Monday with Mir Aslam Bhutani in the chair, he said work on Sowantar Dam in Gwadar would be launched during the next financial year and a reasonable amount has been allocated for the purpose.
He said work on several major schemes in the provincial irrigation sector has already been completed with the financial assistance of the federal government. The schemes included Mirani dam, Sabakzai dam, Shadi Core dam and Batozai dam. Besides, he said 20 new delay action dams in parts of the province have also been construed which would greatly promote agriculture sector of the province.
