Sindh police claimed to detain seven alleged extortionists in separate raids at various parts of the metropolis here on Tuesday. According to police sources, Gulshan Iqbal police on a tipoff conducted raid at Time Square near Nipa Chowrangi and arrested three alleged extortionists namely Bilal Arshad, Danish Mehdi and Zeeshan with weapons.
SHO Shahzada Saleem said these extortionists demanded a ransom of Rs 10,000 from the owner of internet café located near Nipa Chowrangi. He said the accused Bilal Arshad was doctor by profession while rests of the detained were activists of the students' organisations in Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST). Further investigation is underway.
Similarly Sohrab Goth police have also claimed to have nabbed four persons, who were said to be extortionists, after brief encounter at Pareshan Chowk near New Subzi Mandi. Police said the raid was conducted at Pareshan Chowk near New Subzi Mandi on secret information that led to have arrested four persons namely Sher Alam, Kamal, Arfatullah and Rahim. The police had recovered four TT pistols and several rounds from them. They said these arrested persons during initial course of investigation confessed to have committed several heinous crimes including snatching, extortions, etc.
