Five-marla houses: Punjab government decides to give relief to owners

The Punjab government on Thursday decided to waive off the arrears of outstanding property tax before 2004 against the owners of five-marla houses. According to an official, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif accepted the request of parliamentarians from Rawalpindi for waiving off the outstanding tax.
Members provincial assembly belonging to Rawalpindi Raja Hanif, Ziaullah Shah, Mailk Ghulam Raza and Shaukat Aziz Bhatti called on the chief minister his chamber in Punjab Assembly and requested to waive off the arrears of outstanding property tax before 2004 against the owners of houses of five marla throughout the province.
The chief minister directed the Secretary Excise and Taxation to immediately stop recovery of outstanding tax on five marla houses and ordered abolishment of all outstanding property tax before 2004. Due to this decision, the government will have to bear the cost of Rs 600 million.
