15 Jun, 2012

Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) is completing the process of accreditation for the Halal Certification Bodies and will be the first one to offer this service said Federal Minister for Science and Technology Mir Changez Khan Jamali. He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony on the occasion of "World Accreditation Day", observed on Thursday.
This service will be based on guideline of Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) and Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) standard to capture larger pie in export of Halal food, he added. He was optimistic that PNAC will strive in fulfilling its important role of providing internationally recognised accreditation services to the conformity assessment bodies not only at the national level but also globally to meet future needs and challenges. World Accreditation Day is commemorated each year alongside member countries of International Accrediation Forum (IAF) and International Laboratory Accrediation Co-operation (ILAC).
PNAC is also celebrating it regularly since 2009.This year's theme of Accreditation "Supporting Safe Food and Clean Drinking Water" carries special importance for developing countries like Pakistan where clean drinking water and quality of food items remains areas of concern. Mir Changewz Khan said consumers in the developing world take keen interest in the origin of the food they eat or the source or mineral content of a bottle of water.
