Acting CCPO Karachi, Ghulam Shabir Shaikh on Sunday said that certain new administrative steps would be taken to improve the law and order situation in the city. These included deployment of police force in plain clothes to check the growing incidents of kidnapping for ransom and snatching of valuables, he added.
Briefing the media on the city's law and order situation, he said that as a special measure, Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) had been directed to rush to the sites of incidents immediately for better handling of the situation.
He said that the police force in plain clothes would also have the powers to shoot the criminals on the spot. The CCPO sought cooperation from the public as according to him police alone could not control crimes.
"My desire and effort is to see that people are satisfied with the law and order situation in Karachi and other areas of the province," he added.
To a question, he said that he was not in favour of ban on pillion riding as it had proved ineffective.
